Breakfast this morning in the dining room again, and again great service. Then off we set for our drive thruogh the countryside. First stop was Pately Bridge – a gorgeous little town with some very cute shops and lots of showy window boxes.
I found a quaint little fruit / veg / deli where we bought some fruit – the local apples are fantastic! It was the annual charity bike ride (10, 20 or 25 miles) so there were lots of locals out and about cheering everyone on – some funny teams in costume – loved the flinstones – three guys running pushing Betty in a little buggy!

From there to Bolton Abbey – this is a massive place in the middle of no-where – lots in ruins but still very beautiful.
They had a nice teahouse were we had a late lunch – shared a ploughmans lunch plus tea.
Back in the car and off to Hexam where we were booked into t he Royal hotel – a bit run down but cheap and clean. Headed down the road for a pint (or two) and dinner at a nearby Indian restaurant – the food was great – especially the entrees and the tray of condiments - lime pickle, onion salad , mango chutney etc.
