6.5: Hexam to St Bees via Hadrian's Wall

Managed to get this post out of order and can't work out how to fix...

Off we set this morning to Hadrian's Wall - we stopped at Chesters Roman Fort ruins - an amazingly complex fort - the size and sophistication hard to comprehend.

They also had a great museum of artifacts dug up from the area, all catalogued and stored really well and maintained by volunteers.

Back in the van and off we go to find a good section of íntact'wall to view - we stopped at Mile Castle 42, and walked quite a length of the wall - again, the scale and where it is built is incredible - on a really sharp cliff-face in the middle of no-where - those Romans really were determined to mark their territory!

Back to the van for a picnic, then off to Carlisle to meet Pheebs, but we missed the train by a nanosecond, car hire wouldn't extend our hire for a couple of hours for free, so we unloaded the gear at the station, Pete went back and dropped off the car, and then all on the train to St Bees where Phoebe met us - her Dad may have had a little tear in his eye to see his baby girl after her few weeks in Ireland on he own!!
